Why I’m Starting This Substack

Hi, I’m Marta! If you’re reading this, you’re probably as excited about AI and innovation as I am. Welcome to Surf the wAIve—a space where I’ll explore the latest AI advancements, the startups shaping the future, and the founders bold enough to build in this ever-evolving space.

A bit about me: I’ve spent the past decade in the startup ecosystem, both as an entrepreneur and investor. I co-founded two startups, worked as digital ventures consultant and later moved into venture capital, backing early-stage startups. Today, I’m an Investment Director at Wayra, Telefónica’s Corporate Venture Capital arm, where lately, I’ve been investing in many AI-driven companies. I also share my passion for innovation as a professor, teaching Technology Innovation to future engineers at UPC master's program.

"Surf the wAIve" is my side project and I write this Substack mostly on weekends.

I've always had a deep love for the sea, and last year, I tried surfing for the first time. The feeling of riding the waves was unforgettable. A lot has been said about the parallels between surfing and building a tech startup, especially when it comes to staying on top of the next wave—and I couldn’t agree more.

I’ve always been fascinated by how technology transforms industries—how it reinvents the way we work, shop, communicate, and create. AI is the most powerful wave of innovation we’ve seen in years, and I want to dive deep into its impact 💡🚀 🙌
